On The 28th Day Of Black History Month

Invented by black people. It’s complicated music. Often wild and free within harmonically fluid boundaries.

I think that’s probably one of our core problems.

They’ve convinced themselves that we’re simple and stupid. Somehow genetically inferior. And we as in a very black number of people, invented this music that can be complicated as fuck.

Some of us may even believe we are simple people somehow. But we’re not simple my dear. No. We are complicated as complicated can get. And we will be, as a people, for a very long time.

It will take centuries for the spectre of slavery to be lifted from the land. From the DNA and blood of ancestors pumping through hearts. From the infusion of emotions from one generation to the next.

We teach our children to be like us when we need to teach them to think beyond us. Be better than the generation that raised you. For Gods sake please, be better than us. Work to be a better person than your parents.

That could be setting the bar quite high for some and just setting a bar for others. But the reaching towards that truth, that knowledge of your value and rising to it in everything you do.

Embodying the self respect, examining and dealing with fears, doubts and trepidation’s but with the full knowledge that I embody no disadvantage. Nor will I ever perceive myself as disadvantaged.

I walk this earth with confidence in my existence. I know who I am and I’m complicated as fuck.

If you are nothing else in this life,

the very least you should strive to be,

is smart enough to figure yourself out.
